How to Find a Reputable and Trustworthy Lawyer

Posted by on Mar 22, 2016 in Blog | 0 comments

Finding a good and reliable lawyer can be a challenge, especially for small businesses just starting out. But according to a good friend of mine who once worked as intellectual property law attorney, the hunt isn’t that difficult. Allow me to share her great pieces of advice on how you can find a reputable and trustworthy lawyer. Know Your Specific Needs Lawyers are categorized according to their particular specializations. For instance, if you have issues on tax liabilities and gains, then a tax and licensing attorney is what you need. Specifying your needs will immensely help narrow down an otherwise complex and time-consuming search.   Determine Your Budget Although finding a good lawyer is relatively easy, affording one isn’t. Rates begin at an average of $320, and that’s for fresh graduates and newbies. Although small-firm attorneys are, of course, lighter on the pocket, they may be unable to provide a comprehensive service to your various needs. Larger firms, on the other hand, are capable of handling most if not all of your internal business issues as they house multiple attorneys. The only big consideration is your budget. If you can afford attorneys from the larger firms, then great! But if you can’t, it’s okay to stick to smaller firms. After all, a small business has fewer issues requiring a lawyer.   Seek References Before you cash out hard-earned money, ask friends, family and trusted business acquaintances for references. Make a list of these eligible lawyers and personally meet each one of them before you decide on your final choice. You would rest better if you place your business in the hands of someone you are comfortable with and can actually trust. And there are many trustworthy ones out there. Don’t let the few bad apples in the industry overshadow the many good ones that remain good and honest though left unrecognized.
